So I kinda got into mapping again. I’ve been working on a map I decided to call “oc_garden.” It’s about a village that is known for its expensive and valuable crops and gardens. Flowers that can go for a fortune and are made it bouquets and all that shit. Along with some fruit and vegetables.
This entire foundation was run by a woman named Susan Jones, who passed away the previous year. Now, her three grandsons Ronnie, Mitch, and Kyle look after the garden in her place. But one day everything went to hell.. a short distance away from the garden was a base full of soldiers that had been there since Susan’s death. Now they’ve left the building and are attacking the village. Killing off countless citizens and destroying the crops.
The players must make their way through the village, past the gardens, and infiltrate the Combine base and take out their Administrator: Thomas Galahan alongside the brothers. Then, blow up the base! This map will feature (hopefully) a newly scripted weapon from the Half-Life 2 beta, the Fire Extinguisher. That way, you can put out the burning gardens, and clear paths that are covered in flames.
With that said, here are some screenshots. Feel free to send me ideas on things I should add! I plan to add some puzzles into the map as well.
Yup, we just made a news post on the OC site announcing 1.35 to be released this month as well as an epic teaser trailer!
Most of the content is done and can be considered “final” for 1.35, only a few smaller things are left to do.
On my part it would be finishing up broken_escape_02b and _c which are 98% done, only very little visual polishing is needed as well as a bit of ent work, they are both 100% playable.
And then there’s broken_escape_02d, the finale map. This one’s only about 5% done so far, but this map only consists of very few areas due to being a “Last stand” kind of map and thus won’t take me long, i have the map fully thought out so its just down to getting it into hammer.
Reason why that map is still in such an early state is because it got scrapped and started over with a new concept 4 times. broken_escape_02 in general has gone trough a lot of changes over time, the one people will play in 1.35 is a lot different from what i had in mind when i first started with broken_escape_02 back in 2007.
After 1.35 i really want to make some sort of development video for broken_escape and some other maps, showing how they changed over time, showing scrapped ideas and all that stuff that makes people go “omg it would have been better if it still was like that!!” even though it was scrapped for good reasons.
Linkmister worked on some new uzi animations over the last few days, and now they finally came together after about 7 hours of compiling and fixing the final animations.
They use a custom uzi and arms model and replace the OC uzis. This is a personal release only so they will not be included in OC, but you can expect new animations made by him for the OC uzis in 1.35 too.
Yes i finally did it, a replacement for the yas_lobby, and it’s christmas-themed too!
Wanted to do this since a long time now, ever since i left yas and made the server a keyfox server but i just didn’t have any good ideas on what to do with it.
I got the idea for this about 2 weeks ago. I opened yas_lobby_v5.vmf, started modifying it, saved it as keyfox_lobby_winter.vmf and never really touched it again until yesterday. I thought “Shit, it’s almost christmas, i got to finish this!” and so i did. Pretty much worked non-stop on it yesterday to get it done before christmas.
A lot of thanks to Key as well for testing it with me and coming up with some good ideas!
Map will be on our OC server from now on. In case you don’t know about our OC server yet, the ip is w0rf0x.ath.cx:27023. It’s not up 24/7, but its pretty much up most of the day.
Mesark, the same guy who made the Taiga model, has made a new Shana model after i requested it to him and it turned out pretty cool, i really like it. So thanks a lot, Mesark and thanks, Masa0x, for getting me in contact with him!
The model is the summer outfit version of Shana, so it can co-exist with the other 2 Shana models just fine, since they have the winter outfit. I will pretty much use this model from now on, not sure if I’m going to use the old ones again, i may use them sometimes when i feel like doing so.
Just join our oc server, i put the Shana and Taiga model in the server’s auto download list.
(Note: please don’t use these models on our server while we are on. We consider them our private models since they are our fan characters we represent ourselves with and the models were requests by us.)
Also, in case you don’t know about this already: My steam account has been disabled because of some problems with clickandbuy. I’m currently waiting for clickandbuy to complete the 2nd transaction i initiated yesterday so i can get my account back, if you want to stay in contact with me until then, add my back-up/alt account.
I was bored so i got my old homeserver running again, which is also the one that was running my 6 slot oc server for over a year back then in 1.23.
The specs of it are:
AMD Athlon XP 2000+ CPU (1.6 ghz)
1 GB ddr-400 ram
Geforce 2 mx 400 Graphicscard with 32 mb vram
And because i was still bored, i decided to play oc on it, and i have to say that im quite surprised, considering oc runs on orangebox and how old all the hardware is and the graphicscard only supports dx7, it runs at low but still playable fps.
Here are some screenshots, note that every graphics setting is as low as possible and the resolution is 640×480.
As you can see it tends to get some graphic bugs, especially on particles, VGUI textures also tend to disappear when theres a lot of stuff to render on screen at once.
On a side note, my OC servers dont run as [YaS] anymore, they will now run as Keyfox servers, more changes are coming, e.g. i still need to change the motd as it still says yas currently.
For Obsidian Conflict, we just released a new playermodel pack that currently has people jumpin’! From Rorschach to Luigi, a lot of cool and funny models are in this pack, including a very disfigured Faith from Mirror’s Edge.
