Dead before Dawn is a fan-made campaign for Left 4 Dead, which takes place in the Crossroads Mall. Below is a very well-made trailer introducing the mall with very well done voice acting, and yes, Francis was done by the actual voice actor. Valve sent in a small voiceclip for them.
With the recent announcement for Obsidian Conflict 1.35, i set myself a deadline for broken_escape_2b/c, even though im really not a friend of deadlines.
The maps are getting close to being finished, though theres still some stuff to do, like finishing up/ redoing some areas, entity work, NPC Scripting etc.
The reason theres 2 new maps coming instead of 1 like planned (3 if you count part2a in too, which is already released) is that i found part2b a bit repetitive and short the way it was, so i thought about some other objective the players have to do before they can continue on their main objective to spice things up, which started up as one new huge area first where the objective was in. After thinking about how to connect that new area to the current rest of the base, i added more and more areas (which made the connection to the rest of the base) and added more stuff so it wouldnt fit into one map anymore, part2b is already very high on both ent- and brush data so i had to make it a separate map, which basically takes you even deeper into the combine base.
So the maps will later play like that:
Part2b (do main objectives) –> Part2c (do sub objective to continue on your main objectives) –> Part2b (finish main objectives)
Broken escape2b/c will also feature a player-allied NPC which will guide the players through the objectives, tell them what to do etc. I really needed some good way to guide the players around the base and tell them what to do and why, but couldnt come up with anything but the lame text-messages that come out of nowhere for no apparent reason until keychain came up with an awesome idea, so big thanks to you, Key!
Im pretty sure i get these 2 done before the 1.35 release (No release date yet) because of how far progress already is.
I dont want to leave you only with text, so here is one screenshot of part2c, only one because i want to keep the new areas more of a surprise, i normally take screenshots of most areas and post them in the wip threads, which kinda takes that effect away.
(Note its still WIP.)
On a side note, i have made new signature banners for me and my baby that we both use on the oc forums.
(Click for fullsize)
The pictures i chosen to make the banners are again related to us, they are our new fan characters which we represent ourselves with, you see our character once in the middle, and on the left side with a “glow” around it, toradora fans will also understand what the difference in the toradora logo means.
The banner is made out of 4 different pictures, the picture where they hold each other, the kissing scene, the toradora logo and the unique character in the middle, since im pretty unexperienced in photoshop and do all my stuff by “trial and error”, I’m kinda proud of how they turned out!
If you want to watch this anime me and Keychain are into, here is the link to the first of 25 episodes.
Comic-con is today and they are showing off more Left 4 Dead 2. The below videos show off a few new things, like the AK(47?) and a boat oar, the new adrenaline being used. You can also see the spitter in action, but it’s so dark you can really only see his spit.
As you all may know, me and W0rf0x look very forward to Left 4 Dead 2. We had a lot of fun with the first one, especially when we were exploiting, glitching, and performing bugs in order to feed my little series, “Left 4 Dead glitches, bugs, and tricks.” Check the Left 4 Dead category for more info.
Recently, more gameplay footage was revealed, I’m not sure if they are the same campaign or not (I think they are.) But it’s footage of the survivors in a swamp area, a town made out of bamboo and shit, and one video from the older campaign, The Parish.
2 pretty cool hl2 sp mods got released a few days ago.
First one and the one i had most fun with is “Research and Development”, the mod focuses a lot on puzzles, but that doesnt mean you dont get to kill stuff, they way you do it is just…different. I bet you never fought a strider with some weird self-built cart that has a propeller attached to it? well, play this mod and you get to chance to!
The mods quality is pretty high, both visual and gameplay-wise, the maps look top-notch and everything is pretty much thought out and balanced, so you shouldnt get bored or frustrated at any part of the mod.
Now to the 2nd one, “Half-Life 2: Mission Improbable”. This one isnt as long as R&D, its only 1 map so far, 2 other parts are supposed to come out, but it will keep you entertained for about 45 mins. Visual and gameplay quality in that map is pretty high, as expected by someone who already worked on commercial games like Bionic Commando and GRAW 2, he also made several other well-known maps for valve games before, like “dod_palermo” or “arena_offblast”.
I am looking forward to this incredibly. As a previous post stated, a new game made by SK Media which is about two teams of action figures who have come to live and want to beat the hell out of each other. Check the “H.A.V.E” category for the other post.
On another note: Left 4 Dead 2’s boycott might actually have some good points? Or are they still the bunch of idiots they really are?
Today I finally came around to actually installing some skins for Left 4 Dead. Not all of the ones I attempted to install worked, infact it’s odd because only the skins that changed the models as well as the materials worked. These skins are badass and if you’re like me, bored of L4D, these may get you playing for another campaign or two (2 hours?). It was worth it though, played a campaign with bots using these.
Also, you can extract the text used in TF2 into the text your PC uses. So you can type in rad TF2ish text in messengers and stuff (Only people who have the text as well can see it.)
